Long Island Food and Wine Festival.

Chefs and vintners are banding together to get the word out about the area’s delicacies before the tourist season hits full swing.

The Long Island Wine & Food Festival will celebrate a world class wine region! A premier travel destination on the East End of Long Island, the North Fork delivers remarkable cuisine, boutique wineries, craft beer, and quaint accommodations. Festival guests have the opportunity to learn about local flavors, tastes, sights and smells of Long Island’s wine country.

Meet local and celebrity chefs. Enjoy local wines and fare. Experience the rural character of Long Island’s North Fork.

The three-day festival kicks off with an exclusive cocktail reception on June 25th. On Saturday, June 26th, be sure to keep your glass full while experiencing the wines, food, and activities that our 41 wineries will offer. The festival culminates Sunday, June 27th with a Grand Tasting in the historic village of Greenport, a working seaport since the 18th century.

Mediums include works in oils, acrylics,sculpture,photography,video,with musical, dance & poetry performances. Additionally there will be a satellite exhibit for the month of August at the Greenport Brewery’s Gallery. The “UnHamptons North Fork Edition” of the “5th Annual Outsider Art in theHampton’s, with a selection of art in coordination with the Westhampton’s Beach Exhibition.

These exhibitions are a collaborative effort with Three Non Profit organizations; Fountain Gallery + Pure Vision Arts from New York City + Survivors Art Foundation.

Join us in the morning for a 2 mile hike with Palmer Vineyards vineyard manager, Josh Carp. Josh will give us a brief vineyard tour while we get a bit of exercise. Don’t forget to bring your favorite fluffy friend.
Donations will be accepted to benefit Last Chance Animal Rescue, a charitable, not-for profit organization created to save the lives of animals. One of the main goals of the foundation is to rescue animals that are located in “KILL” facilities and underwrite the costs of relocating them to “NO KILL” facilities in hopes of finding them a forever family.
Dogs available for adoption will join us as well!

Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast in Southold, NY is celebrating the Seventh Annual National Iced Tea Month. During the Summer Season, iced tea is really taken for granted. However, iced tea was created in America nearly 100 years ago, so perhaps it’s only fitting that ours is the only country where the majority of tea is enjoyed cold. In fact, iced tea was invented because visitors to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair were not interested in drinking hot tea on a hot day … so quick-thinking English tea merchant Richard Blechynden added ice, and the rest is history.

There are many benefits to drinking iced tea, in addition to just tasting great!

Tea has naturally occurring plant compounds that may play a role in helping the body fight certain cancers, assist with cholesterol, and support a healthy immune system.
Black and green have stronger antioxidant properties than many fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants assist in limiting the development of chronic illnesses as cancer of heart disease.
Tea contains approximately the same amount of fluoride as fluoridated water and may help support healthy tooth enamel.

55th Annual North Fork Strawberry Festival

Strawberry lovers unite! The North Fork strawberries will be in full fruit and ready to be enjoyed by everyone at the 55th Annual Strawberry Festival. Whether you like strawberry shortcake, strawberries dipped in chocolate or just plain strawberries, they will all be available for everyone to enjoy. This year’s Strawberry Festival will begin on Friday evening, June 19^th and continue through Sunday, June 21^st at 5 P.M.

After you have had your fill on strawberries, there is even more enjoyment. Over 120 arts and crafts vendors will be on-site to entice you with everything from knitwear, jewelry, hand-made crafts and more! Make sure to pack a blanket in the car, because at 5 P.M. on Saturday evening, the North Fork Folk Festival will be in full swing with six bands to entertain you. Included in this year’s line-up are Gathering Time, Debra Lynne & Chris Tursi, Lucky 13, Red River Ramblers, Josh Joffen, and Joe Iadanza. Lastly, no Strawberry Festival would be complete without fireworks and they are planned for both Friday and Saturday evenings at 9 P.M.

Complimentary parking and shuttle bus service is offered from Martha Clara Vineyard, located on Route 48 in Mattituck.

Greenport East End Lighthouse Tour

One of the delights of the summer season is to be able to take a cruise on the waters of Long Island and enjoy viewing the many lighthouses. Our favorite lighthouse cruise is on board of the “Peconic Star II”. The first East End Lighthouse tour of the season is scheduled to depart on Saturday, June 27th at 3:30 P.M. Guests will enjoy a cruise on the waters of eastern Long Island and Gardiner’s Bay.

During the cruise, you will learn about the maritime history of the area, including that of Plum Island and Gardiner’s Island. For those history buffs, the cruise will be following the routes of American and British war ships in their 1812-1814 naval engagement. Additionally, one may remember that Gardiner’s Island is where Captain Kidd buried his treasure. Perhaps it may be discovered!

Five lighthouses will be viewed along the way including Orient Point, Plum Island, Little Gull Island, Race Rock, and Long Beach Bar lighthouses. The cruise includes dinner and Long Island wine. Cost per person is $95.00 and space is limited. What better way to enjoy a summer afternoon!
